Complete Guide to Studying in the Czech Republic

Medstudy students at partner university — VŠCHT Praha

This guide covers everything you need to know about applying to Czech universities: from first steps to enrollment. Real facts, current programs and advice from a team that has already prepared more than 800 students for admission to top Czech universities.

Czech Republic: interesting facts for students

Language: faster than it seems

Czech belongs to the Slavic group and is closest to Slovak and Polish. For Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking students it is much more accessible than German or French — grammar is similar and most word roots are recognizable. Most reach B2 in 8–10 months with regular classes and immersion.

Cost of living: comfortable and affordable

Prague is among the more affordable European capitals. Compared with Vienna, Berlin or Amsterdam, housing, transport and food are noticeably cheaper. An average student spends €500–700 per month including accommodation — roughly half of Germany or France.

Work while studying

A student visa in the Czech Republic allows work up to 20 hours per week. More than 50% of students start part-time jobs from year two. Average starting salary for a young graduate is about 35,000 CZK (€1,400) per month.

Transport: as convenient as it gets

Prague is a European leader in public transport quality. Metro, trams and buses run around the clock. A student pass costs about €8 per month. From anywhere in the city to campus — 30–40 minutes at most.

Climate: mild and predictable

Temperate continental climate — mild winters (rarely below −10°C), warm summers. Compared with Kazakhstan or Ukraine, winter is shorter and less harsh. Spring in Prague is a celebration of blooming gardens and chestnut trees.

Don't forget!

You can arrange insurance through Medstudy. Without insurance you cannot extend your visa or see a doctor.
